This is a picture of Percy Kollmann as a young man. This is my husband's grandfather. The KO Guest Haus was his home built in 1955. Grandpa Percy was quite a character as you can see. He loved his family and loved having a good time! Unfortunately, his wife, Mary, passed away in 1964. I was not able to meet her, but I have heard lots of stories of her family gatherings and her lovely flower garden in her yard. Dale and I are proud to have restored their home and hope you enjoy your stay.
Percy and Mary Leyendecker Kollmann are both descended from some of the first settlers who arrived from Germany back in the early 1800s.
Mary Leyendecker Kollmann was descended from Frederick and Margaret Zimmerscheidt who settled in the Frelsburg area in the early 1830s and were later joined by their daughter, Josephine Zimmerscheidt Leyendecker, the only child of Frederick and Margaret, and her husband Johannes Frederick Leyendecker, from Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany. Josephine and Johannes were married in Germany in 1835 and had four young children when they made their journey to Texas. After they arrived in Texas, they had four more children. Their son, John Charles Leyendecker, Sr., was born in Texas in 1855, and he married Anna Hahn in 1884. Their daughter, Mary, was also one of eight children. They had big families back then!
Percy Kollmann was descended from Edo and Margretha Sensel Kollmann who settled in Texas in the mid 1800s. They owned the store in Frelsburg and sold it to the Heinsohn family long ago. Their son, Frederich Gustav "Fritz" Kollmann, married Mary Ordner, who had Percy in 1897. Mary and Percy married in 1918 and had four children, and their son, Charles Fred "Buck" Kollmann, is my husband's father.
You will notice that an "n" is missing on our last name. No, it's not a typo. It appears that an "n" was dropped some time after World War II. Go figure!
So that's a brief history lesson on the Kollman family! I love family history--so interesting!!
